Marcia Prefountaine

LMT, MTII,

Marcia is most honored to continue to help instruct therapists in this noble work. She enjoys the knowledge that she discovers with every educational experience.

Marcia Prefountaine has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and worked in rehabilitative recreational program for disabled individuals in Albany New York. It was during this time through her work with the disabled population particularly in an aquatic environment that Marcia cultivated a nurturing aspect in herself. This opening led her to pursue a career in massage therapy and in 1996 attended the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in Santa Fe New Mexico. What intended to be a six-month sojourn has turned out to be 23 years and counting. During her career she has studied Watsu, Shiatsu, Sports Massage and Soft Tissue Injuries.

While out on a hike during her time in massage school, Marcia had the thought of massaging people with stones. She had no knowledge of what that would entail but thought that the stones would have something valuable to help aid in the bodies healing process. It would be another year before a classmate would tell her about the LaStone training he had just completed. Soon after being hired at Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe New Mexico she was trained in LaStone therapy, which she has been actively offering since 2001.

Over nearly the past 2 decades Marcia has provided thousands of stone treatments to people from all over the country and world. She feels blessed that she has an opportunity to work at a spa which is committed to remain true to the objectives of Mary Nelson’s original StoneDance. Marcia is currently the lead therapist and instructor of the Deep Stone program at Ten Thousand Waves. It is her mission to ensure that the program continue to maintain the same high standards that have made it one of the most sought-after stone massages in the world.

Marcia has been blessed and honored to have had the opportunity to study with Mary Nelson and hopes to continue training with her over the coming years. She is a licensed Independent Instructor in New Mexico and in New York State, she is recognized by the NCBTMB. She is also a licensed personal trainer.
